OGP Datacamp: Data Journalism Workshop
A workshop in Paris on the eve of the OGP Global Summit about how to use government datasets.
Access to Information laws, supported by advances in technology, are resulting in more data being made publicly available than at any previous time in history. But what good is data if you don’t know how to use it?
OGP’s Data Journalism Workshop was offered as a side event to the OGP Global Summit in Paris on Tuesday, December 6, 2016. This special program for journalists, researchers and campaigners interested in learning how to understand government data sets was free of charge and accessible for English, French and Spanish speakers.
The day-long workshop introduced newcomers to the world of open data and data journalism — data analysis, visualization and reporting — and allowed experienced data journalists to share tips, ideas, and successes. Presentations included case studies of how data journalism has led to successful investigative reporting; the role of OGP in the Access to Information movement; and methods for clear and compelling data visualisation. Workshops provided participants with guidance on how to find, extract and analyze public data for a variety of needs.
