OGP’s Americas Regional Event announced for November 21-22 in Argentina

On November 21-22, 2017, Argentina will host the Open Government Partnership’s Americas Regional Meeting in Buenos Aires, bringing together some 2,000 representatives from government agencies, civil society organizations, academia, and journalists from around the region and the world. From November 20-24, the Open Government Week will run alongside the Regional Meeting, hosting a series of side events designed to further the discussion around state openness and citizen collaboration.

The Open Government Partnership (OGP) is a multilateral initiative of 75 national and 15 subnational governments and thousands of civil society organizations working together to create commitments that make governments more open, accountable and transparent, and improve their capacity to respond to citizen needs. OGP works at a local, national, and global level to promote trust in government and serve as a countervailing force to closed governance by increasing government integrity, fight corruption, broaden access to new technologies that promote participatory democracies, and ensure that civil society becomes a regular trusted and important partner for governments.

The Americas Regional Meeting seeks to strengthen the regional community, which includes 18 OGP countries in North, Central, and South America. Participants from around the globe are also welcome to attend.

The call for proposals for speakers, moderators, and facilitators is now open and can be seen at the official Regional Meeting website. The format and topics of the sessions will be co-created to reflect the priorities of participants. The call for proposals closes July 31. Registration for the general public will open in July.

OGP was formally launched on September 20, 2011, on the sidelines of a UN General Assembly meeting, when eight heads of state, along with nine civil society leaders, endorsed the Open Government Declaration and published the first cohort of OGP National Action Plans.
