Mexico and UK commit to work together on open government
To mark the occasion of the State Visit of President Enrique Peña Nieto of Mexico to the UK, the UK Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond and Mexican Foreign Minister José Antonio Meade Kuribreña met for discussions on open government among other issues. During their meeting, the ministers signed a Joint Declaration in which the Open Government Partnership was featured prominently and from which an extract is below:
The UK and Mexico are both founding members of the Open Government PartnershipThe Open Government Partnership (OGP) is a multi-stakeholder initiative focused on improving government transparency, ensuring opportunities for citizen participation in public matters, and strengthen... More (OGP). The UK continues to work together with Mexico as Chair of the OGP, including on preparation for the Global Summit to be held in Mexico in October 2015. We will continue to use open government as a catalyst for inclusive development and will ensure that our own governments are open and accountable by implementing our current OGP National Action Plans and renewing our commitments later this year. In this regard, we will open and protect space for dialogue with civil society and give priority to tackling corruption pursuant to our commitments in the G20 and UN Convention Against Corruption.
