Fiscal Openness to End Poverty – Open Forum

Juan Pablo Guerrero|

There is an undeniable trend of reforms and innovations that include fiscal transparency, accountability and public participation as ways to achieve better governance results. Within this framework, both civil society and governments have been pushing for more fiscal openness commitments in the National Action Plans made by Open Government Partnership (OGP) governments.

The Global Initiative for Fiscal Transparency, as an action network who supports the formulation and implementation of the OGP commitments since 2012, is opening the Fiscal Openness Working Group (FOWG) and calling for new experiences coming from anywhere in the world. The aim is to enrich the exchange around innovative experiences that have great impact potential and could be replicable, while opening a platform to share their experience with other contexts, regions and countries.

We hope that these experiences would inspire other countries and organizations to acquire more challenging commitments to reduce poverty. With this in mind, three selected practices will be invited to participate in the FOWG in Mexico City this October 29th and 30th, 2015 to share their practices with the governments implementing fiscal openness commitments.

The selected practices will also be illustrated through video to help disseminate their experience.

If your organization is using fiscal information or taking advantage of spaces for public participation to incentivize citizen action in the use of public resources, or you are part of a government implementing efforts to make information available, or to open spaces for public participation in fiscal policies and budget process, send your proposal here, before September 30th, 2015 and participate in this open forum.
