Reformers in Africa and the Middle East To Gather in Marrakech on November 1

Washington, D.C. – The Kingdom of Morocco and the Open Government Partnership (OGP) are hosting the 2022 OGP Africa and the Middle East Regional Meeting on November 1-3, 2022 in Marrakech, Morocco.

This event will bring together open government champions and stakeholders from the region including key international partners to raise collective ambition, energize the community, and generate political support to make governments more transparent, accountable and responsive to citizens.

“The development of our region relies on the collective intelligence of our community,” said Ghita Mezzour, Moroccan Minister of Digital Transition and Administration Reform. “OGP provides a solid platform, mechanisms and tools to improve public services through participatory approaches. The Moroccan Government is honored to organize the 2022 OGP Africa and Middle East Regional Meeting as an opportunity to highlight best practices and progress made across the region and provide a space for peer learning and build partnerships.”

This year’s meeting will focus on how  open government approaches can strengthen public services, such as healthcare, education, infrastructure, and more. Participants will discuss how delivery of services can be strengthened by fighting corruption, adopting digital innovations, improving access to justice, and fostering civic participation.

Civil society organizations that make up the Moroccan OGP Steering Committee welcome the event and remain committed to promoting the culture of open government where citizens and civil society have a central role in shaping, monitoring and evaluating public policies. “We hope the Regional Meeting will be an opportunity to open the dialogue with all governments to make bold commitments to increase transparency, accountability and citizen participation, as well as a moment to take stock on quality of public services and participatory democracy.”

“As countries continue to grapple with the effects of the pandemic, it is vital that governments work together with citizens to ensure public services reach everyone, especially those most in need,” said Aidan Eyakuze, Co-Chair of the OGP Steering Committee. “Open government approaches can help accomplish this by supporting national response efforts that are transparent, inclusive and accountable.”

This was a great opportunity for Youth Open Data to present YEELI, a citizen information and monitoring application for health and municipal services in Burkina Faso public institutions.

C’est une bonne initiative pour promouvoir une participation citoyenne et impliquer la société civile dans le suivi des politiques publiques.
