Here’s our monthly roundup of updates from the OGP Local community for April 2023.
ACTION PLAN
- West Nusa Tenggara and West Sumbawa, Indonesia, presented their initial assessment of their action plan and are working collaboratively to strengthen it.
- Maipu, Chile held an event to launch their action plan accompanied by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean.
- Civil society representatives in Kaduna State, Nigeria held a session to validate the nominated commitments for the State’s third OGP action plan.
- Catalonia, Spain held a co-creation session to introduce gender as a cross-cutting issue in open data as part of their action plan. Catalonia’s Citizen Observatory Against Corruption also held a colloquium on “Women Alerters Against Corruption”.
- As part of its action plan, the municipality of Rosario, Argentina, launched the first version of the ‘Data and Gender Approach Guide’, a guide to help address gender and diversity at the municipal level, focusing on how data are collected, processed and used to build public policies.
- Nuevo Leon, Mexico reviewed the completion of the commitments of its OGP action plan. Learn more about Nuevo Leon’s OGP action plan.
- Santa Catarina, Brazil is working on its second action plan, bringing together a set of commitments to promote transparency and social participation.
ACTIVITIES & EVENTS
- The city of Sao Paulo, Brazil, and the Province of Cordoba, Argentina coordinated the third meeting of the OGP Local Circle on Sustainable Development Goals and Agenda 2030 to discuss civil society’s commitment to civic education. Watch the recording here.
- OGP Local visited Moroccan members from the Tanger, Tetouan, Al Hoceima Region, and Tetouan Municipality to follow their work and action plan. OGP also met with UCLG Africa to sign a Memorandum of Understanding.
- Aragon, Spain held a festival with more than 20 activities to celebrate the fifth anniversary of their open government lab (LAAAB), including the launch of their Black Box, a toolkit to drive systemic innovation in teams and organizations.
- The Scottish Government has published its response to the recommendations made by the Institutionalising Participatory and Deliberative Democracy (IPDD) working group, convened in 2021. The response represents a step in the process of institutionalizing participatory and deliberative democracy in Scotland.
- Valencia, Spain, held the second edition of the Participation School that seeks to generate change in the participatory culture of organizations, institutions and citizens.
OPPORTUNITIES
- Fundeps, a civil society organization working actively in Argentina both at the national and local level has published its 2022 yearbook showcasing its actions and activities.
- Be a part of Open Gov Week May 8-12! Add your events or join an existing event.
- OGP Local members Peñalolén (Chile), Buenos Aires (Argentina), Quintana Roo (Mexico), Los Angeles (US) and Santo Domingo de los Tsachilas (Ecuador) are speaking at the Cities Summit of the Americas on April 28 to discuss their experiences implementing commitments on citizen participation, inclusion, and anti-corruption.
