Sarah Wesonga

Programme Officer, Transparency and Access to Information, ARTICLE 19 Eastern Africa

Sarah Wesonga leads ARTICLE 19’s work in promoting an enabling legal, policy and actual environment for transparency and information rights, including freedom of expression, digital rights, civic space and sustainable development within Eastern Africa.

She is passionate about the role of information in the modern age, particularly in empowering a knowledgeable and informed citizenry to be a driver for sustainable political and economic development. Sarah previously managed the European Union’s “Covid-19 Response in Africa: Together for Reliable Information” project, dedicated to facilitating access to reliable and critical information about the Covid-19 pandemic in Africa. 

In addition to her role at ARTICLE 19, Sarah contributes her expertise as a Thematic Expert Reviewer for Access and Openness indicators within the Africa Integrity Indicators project. Sarah brings a wealth of experience as a seasoned researcher and policy analyst, underpinned by a background in human development and policy advocacy. Notably, she serves as a member of Kenya’s Open Government Partnership (OGP) Technical Committee and previously served on the Governing Council of the Africa Freedom of Information Centre (AFIC).
