Open Gov Challenge Awards

The Open Gov Challenge Awards recognize the best initiatives submitted to the Open Gov Challenge, a global call to action aimed to encourage ambition in ten areas of open government critical to strengthening our democracies.

Who can Apply?

  • Any public sector institution across all branches and levels of government of an OGP member. Including local governments, parliamentary and judicial bodies.

Why Participate?

  • Global Recognition: Award winners will be honored at the OGP Global Summit in Spain, in October 2025 in front of a wide network of open government leaders in government, civil society organizations, and other key stakeholders.
  • International Visibility: Winners will have opportunities to showcase their work through speaking roles in sessions organized at the OGP Global Summit and beyond.
  • Peer Leadership: Finalists and winners will have the chance to inspire peers and consider leading cohorts of like-minded changemakers.
  • Resource Access: By highlighting outstanding initiatives, the awards help connect winners with potential funding opportunities, technical support, and media coverage.

How to Apply?

  • Initiatives already submitted to the Open Gov Challenge are automatically considered for the Challenge Awards.
  • Participants can submit new applications by May 31, 2025
  • Submissions can be:
    • Co-created as relevant commitments in an OGP action plan
    • Submitted as a standalone action/commitment, independent of the OGP action plan. You can find the form here.
    • Note that these are not mutually exclusive
  • All submissions must comply with the existing Challenge criteria, found here.

Evaluation Process

A dedicated Selection Committee—composed of representatives from OGP partner organizations and members of the OGP Steering Committee—will be reviewing submissions based on four criteria:

  • Ambition
  • Innovation
  • Sustainability
  • Involvement of civil society

Award winners will be notified in August 2025.

We look forward to celebrating your successes and the collective impact of open government champions worldwide!
