High-level representatives from the EU, the OECD and OGP discussed how to effectively advance necessary reforms in the Eastern Partnership countries. The rule of law, a fair justice system, open civic space and good governance are essential for a fair and sustainable socio-economic recovery from the COVID-19. Open reforms in these areas are necessary to achieve positive developments for our partner countries’ citizens and the economies they live in. The EU, joining forces with the OECD ACN and OGP, will focus on integrity, the fight against corruption, open government and civic engagement.
The EU for Integrity Programme will be the key tool in this endeavour, providing for a set of anti-corruption performance indicators and mainstreaming the effective participation of civil society organisations to ensure open government reforms. EU Commissioner Olivér Várhelyi, OECD Secretary General Ángel Gurría, OGP Chief Executive Officer Sanjay Pradhan and European Commission’s DG NEAR Deputy Director-General Katarina Mathernova will be joined by high-level officials from the national authorities and civil society leaders from the Eastern Partnership to discuss and commit to these reforms.
This launch event was part of Open Gov Week, a week-long series of events where government leaders, civil society advocates and citizens join together to promote transparent, participatory, inclusive and accountable governance.
