Commitment Title
Improvement of the Public Participation Page
Problem
The current government page on participation needs the implementation of new services that are more appropriate and closer to citizens. Currently, this page only includes the regulatory texts that the regional government intends to approve and facilitates the possibility of submitting allegations by citizens in general. The intention is to convert this technological tool into an instrument that encourages citizen participation.
Status quo
The fundamental problem currently is the impossibility of Asturian citizens and the different associations being able to use the participation page to promote their activities or to propose various citizen proposals. On the path towards a greater relationship between public administration and citizens, it is advisable to develop effective instruments to promote greater citizen participation.
Action
The central objective of this commitment lies in deepening and proposing various means of citizen participation. The intention is to generate spaces for public use to promote associative activity as well as publicize existing citizen initiatives, and promote high-demand social debates. These actions undoubtedly serve to amplify the democratic sense that public administrations must use in coordination with citizens.
How will the commitment contribute to solving the public problem described above?
In recent years, technological media have experienced an exponential boom with respect to traditional modes of participation. Therefore, to guarantee one of the fundamental strategic axes of the Asturian government, it is necessary to promote instruments that facilitate information reaching all citizens on equal terms, regardless of whether they live in rural or urban territory. In the same way, the publicity of the different activities carried out by the associations of the different territories must be promoted, it is important to make accessible to everyone and under conditions of equity, the recognition and knowledge by the general public of the enormous work carried out by Asturian non-profit organizations.

What OGP value is this commitment relevant to?
Civic Participation | New technologies can be a barrier to participation if they are not approached from a participatory and democratic perspective. In this challenge, the Asturian public administration makes available to citizens and their associative fabric tools that allow them, under conditions of equality, to promote their activity. Public strategies to promote citizen participation must adapt to new challenges, since these keep their essential spirit alive. |
