Commitment Title
Implementing the School Public Budget
Problem
This commitment aims to address the limited involvement of students in decision-making and community development in Orzhytsia. Currently, young people have few opportunities to influence school life, allocate resources, or participate in local governance. This lack of engagement reduces their sense of responsibility for their community and limits their understanding of democratic processes.
Status quo
Currently, students in Orzhytsia have limited opportunities to participate in decision-making and community development. There is no structured mechanism that allows them to influence school projects, allocate resources, or participate in local governance. As a result, young people are often passive observers rather than active contributors to the growth of their community. To address this, the initiative aims to establish clear rules, introduce a digital voting system, and provide training for students and teachers. By implementing the School Public Budget, Orzhytsia aims to create an open, democratic, and participatory culture where young people can actively shape their community and gain essential civic skills for adulthood.
Action
This commitment aims to educate students about civic engagement and financial decision-making by introducing a School Public Budget—a digital tool that allows students to propose and vote on projects to improve their schools.
The main actions include:
- Establishing a working group to oversee the initiative.
- Developing and approving regulations for the School Public Budget.
- Conducting training sessions for students and teachers.
- Implementing a pilot phase in selected schools with electronic voting.
- Running an information campaign to promote the initiative.
Expected results:
Increased Engagement: Enhanced involvement of students, teachers, and parents in school life and local decision-making, including budget allocation and resource utilization.
Transparent and Open Educational Environment: Fostered a transparent and open educational environment where all stakeholders can contribute to school development.
Capacity Building: Leveraged the experience of Zviahel City Council to strengthen the capacity of local teams in Orzhytsia Village Council.
Empowered Students: Empowered students through active participation in decision-making processes.
Overall objective: To create an inclusive and participatory school governance system in which students play an active role in shaping their educational environment and community.
How will the commitment contribute to solving the public problem described above?
