Description

The Office of Management and Budget (OMB), through the Chief Statistician of the United States, has announced a formal review of the Federal Government’s standards for maintaining, collecting, and presenting data on race and ethnicity (Statistical Policy Directive No. 15). Directive No. 15 provides minimum standards that ensure the ability to compare information and data across Federal agencies, and also to understand how well Federal programs serve a diverse America. OMB has convened an interagency technical working group representing agencies that collect or use race and ethnicity data. The Working Group will examine relevant research and engage in meaningful ways with the pub- lic on its work. Because these Standards are designed to, among other things, understand how well Federal pro- grams serve a diverse population, the Working Group has been holding listening sessions to hear directly from organizations and members of the public, and has committed to soliciting public input on the Working Group’s recommendations.
