OGP Statement on the Appointment of Minister Philpott
The Open Government Partnership congratulates Minister Jane Philpott on her appointment as President of the Treasury Board Secretariat and Minister of Digital Government of Canada. Minister Philpott will now serve as co-chair of OGP, as the ministerial representative of the Government of Canada, and host the next Global Summit in Ottawa in May 2019. We look forward to Minister’s Philpott’s future actions to advance Canada’s leadership priorities of inclusion, participation and impact, leading to open government growth that works for all Canadians and OGP participants. Previously, Minister Philpott served as Indigenous Services Minister and Minister of Health.
OGP also extends a heartfelt thanks to Minister Scott Brison who has led Canada’s engagement in OGP since 2015, and represented Canada in the OGP Steering Committee as co-chair since 2017. Under Minister Brison’s leadership, OGP has launched a major push on gender equality and inclusion, which is a core theme of the upcoming Global Summit. Minister Brison represented Canada at major OGP events, including Global Summits in Tbilisi and Paris and Buenos Aires Americas Regional Meeting, and has been a strong advocate for open government and citizen engagement around the world. We hope Minister Brison will continue to serve as an OGP Envoy in the future.
