Valeria Torres

Officer for Governance Affairs, ILPES

Valeria Torres, Officer for Governance Affairs, ILPES has an MSc in Environmental Policy from the London School of Economics and Political Sciences (UK). She has more than 20 years of experience in applied research and international processes related to sustainable development. She is currently the Chief of Public Management and Open Government at the Latin American and Caribbean Institute for Economic and Social Planning (ILPES) of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC).

At ILPES she leads an interdisciplinary team focused on public management and open government and supports countries in aligning their planning strategies with the United Nations 2030 Agenda. Previously, she was an Economic Affairs Officer (Environmental Policy) of the Sustainable Development and Human Settlements Division at ECLAC, where she was part of the Secretariat team of the Regional Agreement on Access to Information, Public Participation, and Access to Justice in Environmental Matters in Latin America and the Caribbean (Escazú Agreement) and coordinated the Principle 10 Observatory. She has experience as a researcher in sustainable development, environmental democracy, participation in public affairs, transparency, and governance.
