Open Gov Challenge: Guatemala

National Mechanisms to Reduce Gender Violence

What’s the issue? Gender-based violence is the most reported crime in the country, with roots in social and economic inequalities.

What’s the plan? The government committed to strengthening its institutional processes to implement policies, plans, and projects aiming to prevent and address violence against women in the country. In particular, Guatemala will continue to improve its Comprehensive Support Centers for Women Survivors of Violence (CAIMUS, in Spanish), including by transferring funds to CAIMUS more quickly and transparently.

Why is this ambitious? The government will increase funding and improve coordination between different agencies to prevent, address, punish and eradicate gender-based violence. This includes improving access to comprehensive care for women survivors of violence.
