Open Gov Challenge: Senegal

Adopt the Access to Information Bill

What’s the issue? Senegal does not yet have a law that would ensure access to information.

What’s the plan? At the time of writing, a bill to protect this right is in the validation stage. After the law’s validation, the government committed to conducting public outreach to support its adoption and creating an independent agency to implement its requirements.

Why is this ambitious? Access to information laws are a key step toward increasing transparency. By protecting this right, such laws can help support other open government efforts by empowering members of the public to monitor how public officials implement policies.
